About the competition

The Rotary (Greater Bristol) Young Musician Competition, run by seven Rotary Clubs from Bristol and the surrounding counties, is open to instrument or voice students aged 13 to 17 who can offer a predominantly classical music programme at ABRSM Grade 7 level or higher. Heats take place in Bristol in November, with a Final in January. The winner of the Final is given the opportunity to progress to the regional and national levels of the competition, run by Rotary in Geat Britain and Ireland.

In the 2025 competition, 25 participants competed in the Heats, and five competed in the Final, on a variety of instruments. The Final was held in the Lantern Hall of the Bristol Beacon in January 2026, providing an outstanding evening of music to an enthusiastic audience. The winner this time was a remarkably talented 14 year old pianist.

Recruitment of entrants for this year's competition will begin in May, when schools in the area will be contacted and asked to put forward potential participants.
